Does the Season affect the Prices of Flowers?

Just like other fresh produce, such as fruits and vegetables - flowers have seasons - even when grown in a greenhouse.
The seasonal availability of florist quality blooms, and the fact we buy fresh flowers through an online live auction system, does mean the market prices do go up and down.
The flower stem prices are affected by both seasonal availability, and customer demand for the flowers.

These price spikes at the flower auction are particularly noticeable when a popular flower is in short supply on the local markets. Demand such as the excitement when early season peonies first appear on the market floor, or high demand at peak floral events such as Valentine's Day, Mothers Day, or the desire for perfect roses during the height of wedding season.
